Bio:

Role - Jacomo Corbo is a cofounder of QuantumBlack and its Chief Scientist. He focuses on the problem of applying AI and other technology to improving the quality and scalability of QuantumBlack’s client delivery. He is passionate about helping organizations adopt AI at scale to radically improve their performance, and is responsible for architecting and overseeing work at some of QuantumBlack’s most important clients to ensure they do just that.  Jacomo leads QuantumBlack’s R&D efforts in QB/Labs, with a specific focus on methodological innovations and lately the use of deep learning and AutoML to solve the most complex challenges that QuantumBlack works on across industries.

Selected Experience - Since 2011, Jacomo has served as a Senior Fellow at the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.  For five years previously, he served as the Canada Research Chair in Information and Performance Management (2011 – 2015). Prior to this, he was a visiting scholar and research fellow in the Operations and Information Management Department at the Wharton School (2008 – 2010). Between 2006 and 2008, Jacomo was the Race Strategist for the Renault F1 Team Ltd. and was subsequently the Chief Race Strategist for the Lotus Renault F1 Team

Background - Jacomo holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science at Harvard University, an S.M. in Applied Mathematics from the Harvard Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from McGill University.Jacomo's research has been funded by grants from the National Research Council of Canada, the National Science Foundation, the Florence Gould Foundation, as well as by companies such as The Boeing Company, GE, and IBM.

Bio:

Mario Iacobacci is a Partner in the Economic advisory practice at Deloitte Canada. He has led a career at the intersection of economics, public policy and business strategy. With over 25 years of experience at board and executive levels with clients in North America and Europe, Mario brings a commercial perspective to problem solving in the economic and public policy realms. He has an international track record in infrastructure economics, including cost-benefit analysis, funding and financing. He has also led multiple projects examining competition, pricing and regulatory issues in a range of different markets. Mario’s primary sectors of expertise include transportation and industrials, infrastructure, labour markets and the public sector.

Mario holds a PhD in Economics from Cambridge University in the UK.

Interested in learning more about science communication & medical writing?  Come hear Jordanna Bermack, PhD share what it takes to break into this field and answer questions you may have.

Bio:

Jordanna Bermack completed her PhD in Neuroscience from McGill University in 2004 followed by a post-doctoral position in Molecular Neuroscience from University of Ottawa. Jordanna then decided to leave research to work as a medical writer for a medical communications agency before moving to a position at a medical device/pharmaceutical company. There she worked for 6 years for both the Canadian and Global Medical Departments. She then worked at a medical education agency before making the decision to go out on her own as a freelancer/consultant in March 2014. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to work on a variety of different types of medical publications and educational programs in a wide range of therapeutic areas and with many different healthcare professionals nationally and globally. She has also taught medical writing courses as part of the Continuing Education Program at Concordia.

Lionel Fritz Adimi cumulates more than four years working as a political staff both at the federal and provincial levels. He is currently serving as a senior policy advisor for the Honorable Jean-Yves Duclos, President of the Treasury Board of Canada. Prior to that, he worked as a policy advisor for then-minister of Tourism, Official Languages and la Francophonie, the Honorable Melanie Joly. Lionel Fritz Adimi also served as a political advisor to two ministers in the Quebec government.

Bio:

Nicolas Francoeur-Leblond - Nicolas is a senior water management engineer at Teck Resources, Canada’s largest diversified mining company, and currently works toward reducing the impact of mining activities on water quality in the Elk River watershed, British Columbia. Nicolas obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Bioresource) at Macdonald Campus of McGill University and went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Water Science at the National Institute for Scientific Research in Québec City. He now enjoys a solid track record in water resources management covering a vast array of projects in the fields of mining, contaminated site characterization and remediation as well as irrigation engineering. Prior to working for Teck, Nicolas was employed at the Detour Lake gold mine in Northeastern Ontario where he developed an integrated water management plan and oversaw the implementation of associated infrastructure across the mine site.
