PEDTalk: Why Teaching Inspires Others

Discussing the impact you can make as an educator, Melinda Cochrane will share with you why being a teacher is not only a valued profession but also one that will give more than you can imagine intrinsically and spiritually. Teaching is a profession that changes lives. Melinda likes to incorporate her passions into her classroom and would like to inspire future teachers to do so. As a published author and editor, the English teacher designed the course The Writer’s Room which led to nine students publishing their own book. Don't miss this inspirational PEDTalk! 

 

Bio 

Melinda Cochrane is a poet, fiction writer, speaker and educator. She is currently teaching English at Beaconsfield High School. She received the Mary Belle Campbell Scholarship for poetry and teaching from the North Carolina Writers Network. Her first YA novel, Desperate Freedom was nominated for best book of the year in 2013 from the Quebec Writer's Federation. Melinda also runs a publishing service based out Montreal. She hasbeen published in online magazines and blogs such as, (regular writer for) ‘Life as a Human Magazine’, Shannon Grissom’s magazine and Erica Diamond. She can also be read at Gigare Magazine. Her poetry books included The Man who Stole Father’s Boat, She’s an Island Poet and a long poem called My Lips hold the Pink and Red. She is awinner of the summer Malahat Review weekly Monostich Contest. Melinda can also be read at the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers in their online magazine called United.
