Hannah Darroch, flute, Winner of the 2019-2020 Research Alive Student Prize
In this presentation, Hannah will introduce contemporary flute techniques, and ways that New Zealand composers have used them in recent decades to emulate the sounds of Māori flutes in works for the Western flute. Hannah will also outline the commissioning process of a new work for solo flute by NZ composer Chris Gendall, which is inspired by the sounds of the pūtorino. Pianist Suren Barry will also feature, in a performance of Gillian Whitehead's Taurangi for flute and piano.
