Family doctors need to make timely and accurate clinical decisions, often in the context of complexity and uncertainty, but approaches to facilitate the development of these complex decision-making skills remain largely unexplored. Script concordance testing (SCT) is a novel written assessment format designed to test clinical reasoning. It is also increasingly being recognized for its potential educational value. Dr. Rajan Patel will introduce the think-aloud SCT format and present a qualitative exploration of UK family medicine trainees' experiences to using it as a learning tool. He will also propose an updated approach to standard setting the assessment, developed to be practical and feasible for use in educational settings

This seminar is organized by the Family Medicine Education Research Research group (FMER) at the Department of Family Medicine.

Seminar title: Think-aloud script concordance testing (SCT) - a useful learning tool for family medicine trainees?

When: Tuesday May 21, 12.30 to 1.30 pm.
