About the event:

Unlike humans, it is nearly impossible to attribute liability to and pinpoint responsibility on a piece of software. Furthermore, there remains a gap between the speed of technological innovation and the ability of humans to understand the consequences of these innovations. These are the worries of many as we continue to rapidly adopt generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems in healthcare settings. However, we cannot forget that AI offers opportunities for the improvement of healthcare and for a fuller realization of the right to health worldwide. It would arguably be unethical to deprive ourselves of the promise that AI systems offer in healthcare. For example, thanks to the increased use of sequencing technologies, doctors can now decode a patient’s genome and look for possible culprits for a given condition. To simply ignore the possible use of new technological advances in AI and healthcare is not the answer. But to responsibility adopt these new systems, one must consider how these systems alter ethical duties and how safeguards can be put into place to ensure the least number of unintended consequences.
