Since we last wrote, we have made significant progress in identifying the extent of the remediation work that will be required in Moyse Hall. We can now confirm that the closure will extend through the summer. We are aiming to be able to reopen the spaces in time for the Fall 2024 semester but are not able to confirm yet whether this will be possible.

Despite having received an initial proposal from an external company, we have not yet been able to begin the remediation work. Upon review of the proposal, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services was not satisfied that the proposal met all of the University’s standard practices, in particular relating to work under asbestos conditions. The process to secure the services of all needed professionals, which will include an industrial hygiene consultant, therefore continues.

We understand the critical need to restore access to Moyse Hall for academic activities as soon as possible and will do everything possible to make this happen in time for the Fall 2024 semester. We should have a better idea of the timeline toward the reopening when the procurement of the required services is more advanced.

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please contact the operations.foa [at] mcgill.ca (Faculty of Arts Operations team), who will connect with us.
