Montreal International Poetry Prize opens for submissions

Published: 21 January 2024

The Montreal International Poetry Prize 2024 is open for submissions! Send us your best poems for a chance to be published in The Montreal Poetry Prize Anthology 2024. One lucky winner will also take home the cash prize of $20,000.

The 2024 competition is the seventh since the inception of the Montreal Prize and the third since its transfer to the Department of English at McGill. For the last five years, the prize has served as an exciting focal point for the energy that students and faculty bring to poetry. As a non-profit initiative under the broader educational mission of the university, the Montreal Prize builds appreciation for poets and their work, opens volunteer and work opportunities for students in the literary field, and forges bonds between the university, the international writing community, donors, and the public. Events such as workshops and readings spring from these connections, both on campus through the Poetry Matters collaborative and online under the banner of the Fluid Vessels reading series. Through these activities and others the Department of English upholds a tradition centred on the brilliance and power of the lyric poem.

The 2024 competition will be judged by A.E. Stallings, Oxford Professor of Poetry 2023–27, in concert with a jury of twelve other distinguished poets, Canadian and international. To find out more and to enter the competition, click here.
