Negotiation Update: AMURE (Research Associates/Assistants)

Published: 16 March 2018

On January 23, AMURE and McGill University reconvened in the presence of a conciliator appointed by the Ministry of Labour to review the status of ongoing negotiations with respect to the collective agreement. The Union obtained clarifications regarding the University’s position on benefits, short-term disability and working hours.

Since the summer of 2017, monetary negotiations have been limited as a result of ongoing pay equity discussions between McGill, AMURE and two other unions. However, since the January meeting, McGill and AMURE have maintained open communication lines and have consequently agreed to resume monetary discussions as of April 10, in parallel with the ongoing pay equity discussions.

The parties aim to settle outstanding monetary and other matters in order to finalize AMURE’s collective agreement, with the understanding that the salaries of some AMURE members may be modified by the outcome of the 2010 and 2015 pay equity maintenance evaluations.

This update is meant to inform the community about ongoing negotiations and has been validated by the Union.
