Obituary - Dr. Ken Richter

Published: 20 March 2023

Dear Colleagues,

I have sad news to share. Dr. Ken Richter passed away on March 7th 2023. He had been on leave of absence since November battling a life threatening illness. His nephews Zerah and Daniel reached out to me yesterday and let me know that he was buried in a private family ceremony on March 12th. The family was caught off guard by his sudden departure and admist their grief have been trying to organize his affairs while living outside Quebec. I have been assisting them as much as possible.

Ken graduated from Mcgill Medical School in 1979. He completed residencies in both family medicine and psychiatry at McGill as well as graduating from the Psychoanalytic institute. For over 35 years, he worked mainly with patients with severe and persistent mental illness, mainly schizophrenia. He also did some work at the old RVH ER and had a private practice in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

He will be remembered as a devoted psychiatrist, who cared deeply about his patients as well as a compassionate man who loved to laugh.
