OverDrive changes for McGill community and Mac users

Due to a change in our services we can only offer OverDrive to McGill faculty, students, alumni, or others in our community with McGill username credentials. We apologize to any members impacted by this change.

McGill Alumni: If you do not have a McGill username (first.last [at] mail.mcgill.ca) or yours is no longer active, please register with the McGill Alumni Online Community.

Important update for users of OverDrive for Mac

OverDrive is discontinuing support for OverDrive for Mac and audiobook downloading for Mac computers on September 4, 2019. Please note this change does not affect access to the OverDrive app on iPad or iPhone.

Statement from OverDrive:

“Due to upcoming macOS changes, and to simplify the user experience, OverDrive will soon end support for OverDrive for Mac. Effective September 4, 2019, OverDrive for Mac will no longer be available for download and Mac users will no longer see the option to download audiobook titles at your OverDrive website. Instead, Mac users can enjoy audiobooks using OverDrive Listen from [McGill’s OverDrive] library website.

Any users with audiobooks already downloaded to OverDrive for Mac will retain access to their downloads for the remainder of the lending period, provided they have not yet updated to macOS 10.15 (Catalina). Though we anticipate minimal user impact, OverDrive Help (https://help.overdrive.com/en-us/home.htm) will be updated to assist with user support. “
