Violinist Simos Papanas joins Schulich for a week long residency

We are excited to welcome the uniquely versatile Greek violinist, composer, and mathematician Simos Papanas to the Schulich School of Music for a week-long Catherine Thornhill Visiting Artist Residency!

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1979, Papanas studied violin, baroque violin, composition and mathematics at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki, Oberlin College, and Yale University. Among others, he has performed as a soloist with the Staatskaplle Dresden, the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Greek Radio, and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded as a soloist for Deutsche Grammophon, BIS and Centaur as well as performed in festivals such as Verbier, Schlesswig-Holstein, Savannah Music Festival, Sommets Musicaux Gstaad, the international violin festival of St. Petersburg, the Athens Festival and the Tokyo Music Festival. Since 2003 he has been concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and since 2014 has been performing and touring extensively with the world-renowned violinist Daniel Hope.
