Welcoming Dr. Robert Carlin as the new Postgraduate Education Assistant Program Director in the Department of Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine is happy to announce that Dr. Robert Carlin will be joining the Postgraduate Education team as the new Assistant Program Director, effective September 1, 2019.

Dr. Carlin completed his residency training in Family Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Health Complex and the CLSC Côte-des-Neiges. Appointed as a Faculty Lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine in 1999 and promoted to Assistant Professor in 2017, he also supervises and teaches to undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees at the CLSC Metro.

Throughout his career, Dr. Carlin has devoted himself to health equity and marginalized populations. He was instrumental in the creation of the community service-learning curriculum at McGill known as the Community Health Alliance Project (CHAP) for which he has served as Course Director since 2014. Additionally, he was the Public Health Director for Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay from 2013 until now.

In 2018, he was awarded the Haile T. Debas Prize, which recognizes McGill faculty members who help promote diversity by acting as role models, mentors, or by implementing new policies to increase underrepresented minorities in undergraduate or postgraduate training, faculty recruitment, retention and promotion.

As the Postgraduate Education Assistant Program Director, Dr. Carlin will report to the Family Medicine Postgraduate Program Director and assist in the management of the program, with particular attention to curriculum development and program evaluation.
