Raymond Building 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

Item 1: Jamshid Rahimi
Celebrating No-Rooz

No-Rooz with its uniquely Iranian characteristics has been celebrated for at least 3,500 years and is deeply rooted in the rituals and traditions of the Zoroastrians.  Iranians consider No-Rooz as their biggest celebration in the year. No-Rooz ceremonies are symbolic representations of two ancient concepts - the End and the Rebirth; or Good and Evil.

Jamshid Rahimi was born in Khonj, a small town in south of Iran, where he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Urmia University. After graduation, Jamshid worked on two projects for Pak Dairy Company and Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences to improve the physical properties   of low fat yogurt and cheese, respectively. This is his third PhD semester at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Ngadi.

Item 2: Jenna Senecal
Natural Liquid Gold

Natural Liquid Gold is what I like to nickname human urine. Can we use it as a fertilizer? During this presentation we'll discuss some of the reasons why human urine should be seriously considered as a fertilizer. Some disadvantages of its use will also be discussed.

Having completed her undergrad in Bioresource Engineering at McGill University, Jenna Senecal is now is starting her Master's degree under the supervision of Dr. Lefsrud. She will be looking at the long-term impacts on the soil and plants from using human urine as a fertilizer.

Item 3: Harvinder Syan
Herbicide Resistant Canola – An Overview

Canola is a major Canadian crop and has become very important for Canadian farmers. The oil from canola is used for cooking and baking at home and in food processing plants. It also has industrial uses such as in the manufacture of fuels and plastics. Most of the canola grown in Canada is genetically modified. In this seminar we will discuss the basics of the crop and its herbicide resistance.

Harvinder was born in India and raised in Punjab (province) where he completed a BSc Agri (Hons) from Punjab Agricultural University. Harvinder has five years experience in the Potato Seed Production Program while working with India’s leading corporate ITC. Harvinder is currently working with Dr. Shiv Prasher in the Department of Bioresource Engineering, McGill University in the M.Sc Thesis Program.

Item 4: Ashutosh Singh
Open Access

Open access (OA) to research articles provides a free, immediate and unlimited potential for accelerated dissemination and recognition of research findings. In this presentation we will assess the advantages and disadvantages of OA and conventional Toll access publication.

Ashutosh finished his Master’s in Bioresource engineering at McGill last year and presently he is enrolled in the PhD program in the same department.

Item 5: Minoo Yazdanpanah
Isfahan: A City or “Half of the World”

Isfahan or Esfahan is Iran’s third largest city. It has been designated by UNESCO as a world heritage city. It contains a wide variety of architectural sites dating from the 11th to the 19th century.
