http://www.aps.org/publications/apsnews/200105/images/galileo_telescope.jpgThe process of understanding the universe's true nature and the Earth's position within it was a lengthy one, as philosophers and scientists tried to make sense of their naked-eye observations. Then, in 1609, one man using a simple wooden tube and glass lenses proved the universe to be a place very different from what most people were prepared to believe. Join historian Bruno Paul Stenson for an entertaining lecture about the evolution of our view of the universe, followed by telescope viewing of the moon and Jupiter with members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (if the sky cooperates). Free, everyone welcome, no reservations necessary. In english.
