Arts Building 853 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0G5, CA

Photographs are digital, journals are electronic, books are on-screen, music streams. The digital age is transforming libraries. No longer just a storehouse for information, the McGill Library, which logged over 3.5 million visits last year, is the heart of the campus, providing access to knowledge, a stimulus for creativity, a source of inspiration, a place for interacting with others and a means of building community. Join us for this lively session as the Sassy Students debate the Learned Librarians on the nature of the Library's second coming.

This CWOQ takes place in the McLennan Library. A look at some of McGill’s outstanding treasures in the Rare Books and Special Collections Division will follow.

Janine Schmidt was named McGill’s Trenholme Director of Libraries in 2005. She previously served as University Librarian at the University of Queensland in Australia. She is a frequent speaker on the evolving role of libraries in the 21st century. A graduate of the University of Queensland, she holds a master’s degree in Librarianship from the University of New South Wales. At McGill, she has overseen an extensive renewal of library services and facilities - with impressive results. In last year’s Globe and Mail University Report Card, McGill’s library services ranked first or second in Canada in each of seven categories.

Please note that online registration is available until September 16, 2008. After this date, only phone, fax and mailed-in registrations will be processed.
