It’s a Small World. Networks in Ancient Greece

A historical paradox: Classical Greek civilization came into being at the time when Greeks were moving far away from each other, founding city-states all around the shores of the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Did distance create the virtual center? Breakthroughs in Network theory, especially the "Small World phenomenon," explain the emergence of Classical civilization through a process of convergence through divergence.
