Dr. Bertrand Montel holds a MSc in Animal Sciences and a PhD in Farm Management and Economics from AgroParisTech (France) where he was a tenured Associate Professor until 2003, researching and teaching the economics and organization of livestock industries, environmental management system, and system theory.

Shortly after immigrating to Canada in 2003, he started a career in banking, working for some of the major Canadian banks where he held positions in credit risk analysis (RBC), credit risk management (CIBC) and strategy (National Bank of Canada), covering agriculture and agri-food. During that time, he gained an intricate knowledge of the dynamics of Canadian farms, especially relating to risk management and financial management.

In 2013, Bertrand moved into consulting with ÉcoRessources Inc. to subsequently launch CERESSYS as his own research and advisory practice, specializing in agricultural and agri-food economics, policy, and finance. He has conducted work on farm debt, farm succession, international trade and competitiveness, credit risk management, foresight, supply management, and the grain industry, among others.
