School of Social Work Professional Development Lunch & Learn Series:

"Growing up with Parental Mental Illness in the Family"

The voices of the children of the mentally ill are seldom heard and their suffering rarely documented.  This presentation will sensitize participants to the child`s point of view, living with a parent who has a severe and persistent mental illness.  A DVD “Behind Closed Doors: Talking to Children about Mental Illness” will be presented revealing an intimate portrayal of children trying to make sense of their topsy turvy home life.

Joanne Kielo is a Family Therapy, MFT Supervisor and an Art Therapist who has worked with children for over 20 years.  Presently she is employed on the Youth Mental Health Team in the West Island Health and Social Service Centre.  She teaches and supervises at the Argyle Institute of Human Relations and she is an exhibiting artist.
