A special event organized by SUS and CaPS to build awareness of science career options.

This in an excellent opportunity for all science students to meet and listen to professionals from various industries, working in non research roles.

Following the event, there will be a social meet and greet, with refreshments.

This is your opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how you can use your science degree in the working world.

 

Speakers

Loretta Del Bosco, Director - Regulatory Affairs / Product Safety / Quality Assurance / Operations, AbbVie Corporation (BSc Microbiology and Immunology, Certificates in Management and Public Relations Management)

Loretta will open the event with a special presentation on Pharma Careers 101. She will cover all possible careers within the pharma industry, outside of research.

Bio: Loretta began her career with AbbVie in 1977.  She has held various management positions in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Product Safety and Operations (including Logistics, Distribution and Office Management) within the pharmaceutical, bio-pharmaceutical, hospital, medical device, diagnostic and nutritional products area.  Loretta is the current Vice-Chair of Canada’s Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D) Regulatory Affairs Committee and an acting member of BIOTECanada’s Health Advisory Board, Subsequent Entry Biologics (SEB) Committee and Biologics Regulatory Affairs Group (BRAG). She is a member of McGill’s Dean of Science Advisory Committee.

Following Loretta's presentation, each of the following speakers will share their career story.

Sophie-Dorothee Clas, Pharmaceutical Consultant, PharmaSolv Consulting (BSc Chemistry, PhD Polymer Chemistry)

Sophie-Dorothee is a Pharmaceutical Consultant with more than 25 years of leadership in industrial and academic research with a strong patent and publication record.

Silvie Hassan, Product Manager, SCP Science (BSc Biochemistry)

Silvie is a biochemist with a sales, sales management and marketing, product management and entreneurship background.

Dannis Fafard, Product Manager - Medical Supplies, Medtronic (BSc Food Science, MSc Chemistry, MSc Microbiology, MBA)

Marketing professional with no knack whatsoever for science, not sure what happened.

Ingrid Blauer, Securities Analyst - Investment Manager, Self Employed (BSc Math and Finance, Graduate courses in Mathematical Modelling in Finance)

Ingrid is a Financial Securities analyst with over 20 years experience in financial modelling, portfolio analysis, and risk management. Currently involved in Real Estate development and financing.

Tyler Hunt, General Manager - Operations and Development, Apron Fuel Services (BSc Biology, Business Minor)

Tyler is a sales, operation and supply manager with 7 years of experience in road fuel, and aviation fuel supply and logistics.

Stephen Wiencke, Managing Director of Financial Products, BMO Capital Markets (BSc Math and Computer Science)

Stephen has 24 years capital markets experience – mostly rates trading and, more recently, rates marketing. Institutional client coverage of interest rates derivatives (swaps and swaptions).

Paul Donnini, Independent Business Consultant (BSc Chemistry, PhD Synthetic Organic Chemistry)

Paul's passion was, and remains, science, but discovered he had an aptitude for business development and commercial activities, so he pursued management positions with customer contact in technical fields and also spent numerous years in the the water industry which is critical on a world-wide basis.
