Construction start: McIntyre Medical Building - Electrical room

McGill University has mandated Procova Inc. to carry out the following project: McIntyre Medical Building / 15-104 - Modification of the fourth floor electrical room distribution.

This project includes installing a second transformer to provide the required additional electrical capacity for the building and to update the emergency electrical distribution within the building.

Construction start date:  August 2023

Planned construction end date: July 2024

Work schedule: Mondays to Fridays, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scope of work: 

A study has confirmed that the electrical capacity provided by the current transformer is no longer sufficient to support the increasing volume of activities in the building. The project consists of installing a second transformer, which will provide additional electrical capacity. The scope also includes the modification of the emergency electrical distribution of the building. This will enable the connection of a chiller and pumps on the emergency power for the freezer farms and other research equipment.

Impact:

Several major electrical shutdowns will impact the building throughout the project. In addition, hoist operations will be required to enter the new electrical components via a temporary opening in the wall of the fourth floor mechanical room. Official notices and standard delays will be provided in advance to occupants.
