Lefler Professor of Ne urobiology\, Harvard Medical School\n Investigator\, Howard Hughes Medical Institute\n\nTo RSVP: at.theneuro.ca/albert-aguayo-2019-rsvp\n\nThe lectur e will be followed by a reception.\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nDr. David Ginty recei ved his PhD degree in physiology from East Carolina University in 1989 and did postdoctoral research on neuronal signalling mechanisms with John Wag ner and Michael Greenberg at Harvard Medical School. In 1995 he became a f aculty member in the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins Universit y. In 2013 he returned to the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medica l School\, where he is currently the associate director of Harvard’s Progr am in Neuroscience. Ginty is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.\n\nResearch in Dr. Ginty’s laboratory addresses the development\, organization\, and functio n of neural circuits that underlie the perception of touch. His laboratory has generated an array of mouse genetic tools that have enabled visualiza tion\, targeted electrophysiological recordings\, and functional manipulat ion of primary sensory neuron subtypes. This work has revealed mechanisms of development\, functions\, and organizational properties of the major su btypes of low-threshold mechanoreceptors (LTMRs) as well as the CNS circui ts they engage for touch perception.\n\nThis annual lecture honours Dr. Al bert Aguayo\, OC\, FRCP\, Professor Emeritus founder and former Director o f the Centre for the Research in Neuroscience at McGill University. He is a former President of the Society for Neurosciences and the Canadian Assoc iation of Neuroscience. Dr. Aguayo also held the positions of Secretary Ge neral and President of the International Brain Research Organization ( IBR O) and  been a member of many international advisory committees and editor ial boards. He holds honorary degrees from the Universities of Lund (Swede n)\, Cordoba ( Argentina) and Queen’s and Dalhousie in Canada. Albert Agua yo’s scientific contributions concerned the regenerative capacity of the a dult mammalian central nervous system\n DTSTART:20191010T200000Z DTEND:20191010T210000Z LOCATION:Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre \, Institut et Hôpital Neurologiques d e Montréal\, CA\, QC\, Montréal\, H3A 2B4\, 3801\, rue University SUMMARY:Albert Aguayo Lecture: The Sensory Neurons of Touch (en anglais) URL:https://www.mcgill.ca/channels/fr/channels/event/albert-aguayo-lecture- sensory-neurons-touch-en-anglais-293631 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
