2016-17 Desautels Teaching Awards

Published: 17 May 2017

Congratulations to Professor Juan Serpa and Professor Sujata Madan who have been selected as the recipients of the 2016-17 Desautels Faculty Teaching Award for Undergraduate and Graduate teaching, respectively.

Professor Juan Serpa’s enthusiasm as an instructor has been described as contagious, while his approach to teaching fosters a genuine interest in the subject matter among students. In the classroom, he demonstrates a commitment to student learning and believes in providing real-world context to enhance the topics covered.

As expressed in his nomination letter, “Professor Serpa is someone who all students can consider a mentor and who is making a positive impact at Desautels.”

Time and again, Professor Sujata Madan has been described by her students as passionate about what she teaches and deeply invested in their learning. Indeed, her ability to connect complex financial concepts with timely global events is recognised for being both inspiring and engaging. Beyond the classroom, many consider her an esteemed mentor who is personally committed to helping students become the best versions of themselves.

Both Professors Serpa and Madan embody the very best of what the Desautels Faculty of Management looks for in outstanding teachers. Their awards will be officially presented at the June 1, 2017 convocation ceremony.
