Alumni now have access to myFuture for life

Published: 1 September 2009

The McGill Career Planning Service (CaPS) is pleased to announce that, as of September 1, 2009, all McGill alumni will be given access for life to the “myFuture” job search and career tools suite free of charge.

“myFuture” was brought in for all McGill students in February, 2008 and has proven popular with students and employers.  It is an efficient way to search for full-time and part-time jobs as well as to browse on-line career resources.    In addition to applying to jobs on myFuture, users may:

  • upload documents such as cover letters, CVs, transcripts, etc.
  • view employer profiles
  • register for applicable events, workshops and information sessions
  • view announcements and alerts

At any one time, myFuture contains hundreds of jobs and internships for students and alumni from all backgrounds.   Alumni should note, though, that most employers are looking for new or recent graduates, so there may not be many positions for more experienced candidates.

Please note that McGill Alumni have access for life to the “myFuture” job search and career tools suite free of charge. However, Alumni do not have access to Information Sessions and are not eligible to participate in on-campus recruitment campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students), but are encouraged to apply on their own.

At the same time as launching this new initiative, CaPS is partnering with the McGill Alumni Association to encourage McGill alumni who are employers to come to McGill to recruit and hire current students for any vacancies that they might have.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated in May 2007 or later)

You should already have a profile in myFuture. Go to: http://csm-caps.mcgill.ca/students and sign in. If you have any difficulty, phone CaPS at 514-398-3304.

How to register for myFuture (for alumni who graduated before May 2007)

Alumni who graduated before May 2007 must register in order to create their own profiles in myFuture.  Some faculties have their own career centres which have different policies regarding service to alumni, so please send an email to the appropriate link below to register:

In your email, include your full name, McGill ID number, Faculty, year of graduation and major, email address, current mailing address and phone number.

Important note

Although all alumni will have access to myFuture, access to other CaPS services (e.g. one-to-one advising, the Mentor Program, PACE Program, the Job Finding Club) will be restricted.  All services will be free for up to one year after the end of the last semester in which they paid their Student Service fees.  For the second and third years following graduation, alumni may opt-in to all services by paying $50.00 per term. The timeframes of these terms are from September to December, January to April and May to August.  Service is not available after three years.

Please note that alumni are not eligible to participate in on-campus recruitment campaigns (which are reserved for current graduating students), but are encouraged to apply on their own.

Please note that the Faculties of Management, Engineering and Law have different policies regarding service to alumni.  Please contact them directly for relevant information.
