Appointment notice: Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources)

To all faculty and staff:

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Ms. Lynne B. Gervais as the Associate Vice-Principal (Human Resources), effective December 4, 2006.

In the context of the reorganization of the Administration and Finance portfolios, this new position replaces the Executive Director of Human Resources and will report directly to both the Provost and the Vice-Principal (Administration and Finance).

Ms. Gervais will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies, policies and practices that will reflect McGill's academic and human resource objectives. Along these lines, one of the first tasks of the new AVP (HR) will be the integration of basic HR functions for academic, administrative and support staff, including consolidation of certain functions of the Academic Personnel Office into the Human Resources Department.

Ms. Gervais is a certified human resources professional (CHRP); she has a BA (Honours Economics, cum laude) from Concordia University, a Graduate Management Diploma from McGill University, and has completed a Directors Education Program offered at McGill.

Ms. Gervais has acquired a successful background in diverse multinational corporate cultures, with particular experience in global compensation, international management mobility, succession planning and change management. She has a strong reputation as an experienced team builder and project manager, and is recognized for her leadership through mentorship.

Since 2003, Ms. Gervais has been the National General Manager, Human Resources and Internal Communications, at Ogilvy Renault, a full-service law firm with almost 450 lawyers, patent agents and trademark agents.

Prior to this, Ms. Gervais worked at Bombardier Aerospace: from 2002-2003 as Vice-President, Human Resources, Engineering and Corporate Services, 1999-2002 as Vice-President, Global Compensation and Organization Effectiveness, Corporate Office, and 1995-1999 as Director, Human Resources Information Systems. Additional experience includes human resources senior positions at Medis Health and Pharmaceutical Services Inc., Lantic Sugar Ltd. and Philips Electronics Ltd.
