An appreciation of Acting Dean Shauna Van Praagh

Published: 25 June 2009

Few would disagree that good professors make for good faculties. Even fewer that generosity of spirit, a sense of institutional responsibility and a deep commitment to colleagues are professorial traits that distinguish great faculties from merely good faculties.

On June 1, while still continuing in her role as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Professor Shauna Van Praagh stepped in as Acting Dean, bridging the period between the end of Nicholas Kasirer’s deanship and the beginning of Daniel Jutras’ term.

So smooth the administration, so seamless the transition and so steady the hand has been that the month has flown by. To be appreciated for being unnoticed in one’s excellence is the highest esteem a professorial cohort can bestow on an acting academic administrator.

For Shauna, our esteem is matched only by our gratitude.
