MONTREAL -- Stephanie Avery came off the bench to score twice as the No.2-ranked McGill women's soccer team blanked the UQTR Patriotes 5-0 at Molson Stadium, Friday.

The division-leading Martlets extended their win streak to five, while eighth-place UQTR dropped to 0-5 in the QUSL.

Freshman Selena Colarossi, a midfielder from Burlington, Ont., broke the ice in the 65th minute of play and Avery made it 2-0 12 minutes later.

Trailing 2-0 late in the contest, the Patriotes were forced to open up and McGill took advantage, exploding for three goals in the final two minutes of play.

Avery tallied her second of the soiree in the 89th minute, followed by markers in injury time from senior midfielder Hannah Simmons of Vancouver, B.C., and striker Bianca Cordileone, a freshman from Laval, Que.

"It took us a while to break their defence," said McGill head coach Marc Mounicot. "UQTR played well and were organized for 65 minutes but we were able to find a solution and played with greater confidence and poise the last 45 minutes."

McGill had a lopsided 16-2 edge in shots on net, a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks and a 13-0 margin in crosses. Rookie 'keeper Victoria Muccilli of Mississauga, Ont., got the call for her third start of the regular season and earned her third shutout in as many games. A beleaguered Isabelle B. Senecal registered14 saves in a losing cause for the Patriotes.

"Some changes at halftime brought the team to a higher level of play," added Mounicot. "Colarossi and Avery gave us more options upfront and we had an opportunity to rest some key players for Sunday's much-awaited showdown with the Montreal Carabins."

Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Stade CEPSUM, on the other side of Mt. Royal.
