Published: 1 February 2010

OTTAWA - Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., and Matthew Mosseler of Fredericton, N.B., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 31, 2010.

Bettez, a 22-year-old forward on the women's hockey team, netted a natural hat-trick, including a shorthanded effort and the game-winning goal, as McGill skated to a 4-1 road victory over Carleton on Saturday and extended their win streak to 75 consecutive games. Bettez, a third-year management major, leads the Quebec goal-scoring race with 14 in 13 games. The two-time all-Canadian sits third in the points race with a 14-6-20 dossier. Bettez, who was named CIS rookie of the year in 2007-08, previously played for Dawson College.

Mosseler, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound power hitter on the men's volleyball team, scored 25.5 points over two matches and guided the Redmen to a stunning 3-0 road victory over Montreal on Friday. It was only their second-lifetime victory over the Carabins, dating back to when the Quebec league was formed in1990. Mosseler, a 21-year-old science junior, registered 22 kills to go along with six digs and three stuff blocks. He attended Fredericton high school before joining the Redmen.
