Calgary Herald - WestJet's New York landing slots give it a business travel advantage: analysts

Published: 24 November 2011

WestJet flying passengers in and out of New York City during the peak periods demanded by business travellers will boost the carrier’s position in the lucrative corporate market, analysts say.

Providing New York, as opposed to Newark, New Jersey where WestJet currently lands, as a destination gives it another lure for busy corporate clients willing to pay more for flights, says Karl Moore, an associate professor at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management.

“They’re premium paying customers,” he said. “Strategically, it’s where WestJet wants to go. They want to not only be WestJet, but EastJet as well, and go after a market that’s less price sensitive.
