Congratulations to Associate Member Aristide Nononsi

Aristide Nononsi, an Associate Member of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, was appointed last week to be the UN's Independent Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in the Sudan.  

As noted by the President of the Human Rights Council, “Regarding the mandate of the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan, … I decided following broad consultations to appoint Mr. Aristide NONONSI from Benin. Mr. Nononsi has the extensive experience in technical assistance and capacity-building activities on human rights systems and procedures in the region needed for that position.”

Aristide Nononsi has been Executive Director of the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa since 2012. Previously, From 2007-2011, he was the Executive Director of the Centre for Developing Area Studies in the Institute for the Study of International Development (McGill University) and a Senior Boulton Fellow in International Development and the Law at McGill's Faculty of Law.
