Earthquake in Padang, Indonesia

McGill continues to closely monitor the situation in Indonesia after a 7.7 earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit the city of Padang and nearby Mentawai Islands.  News reports list the number of deaths at 311 while another 410 people are still missing.  The quake struck at 9:42 p.m. Monday. The government issued a warning to people in West Sumatra province to stay away from the coastline for up to five days because of the possibility of more earthquakes. In addition, a volcanic eruption in Indonesia at the same time has brought more death and devastation.
