Former Redmen lacrosse star returns to ride again at Old McGill

Published: 21 July 2010

MONTREAL, Que. -- Brendan Simeson of Oshawa, Ont., a former player and coach with the McGill University men's lacrosse team, will be rejoining the Redmen as a player-coach for the 2010 season.   The three-time captain, who graduated from McGill with a degree in education and a minor in management, has left his position as a sales rep with Reebok and returned to pursue an MBA.

"We look forward to working again with Brendan," said veteran Redmen head coach Tim Murdoch. "He is an experienced box lacrosse player who was a highly effective, two-way "middy" (midfielder) in field lacrosse. So in addition to his role as a volunteer coach, we know that he will help us in a playing capacity."

Simeson, who played for the Redmen from 2003 to 2007 and spent two years as part of the coaching staff, will serve in the capacity of strength and conditioning.  Simeson joins Murdoch's four-man staff, which included assistants Sean Steinwald (Cornell '00) and Jason Martin (McGill '10).

In 2007, Simeson was named as the most valuable graduating senior in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association.  The next season, he was part of the McGill coaching staff that was voted as the league's coaching staff of the year.
