McGill made short work of an old nemesis on the path toward a possible national championship in men's hockey.

The fifth-ranked Redmen, led by Francis Verreault-Paul's two goals and three assists, skated to an impressive 7-4 win over the No. 3 Trois Rivières Patriotes to sweep the OUA Eastern Conference best-of-three series before an overflow crowd of 1,656 at McConnell Arena last night.

McGill clinched a berth in the national championship tournament for the second consecutive year and fourth time in five years. The six-team University Cup goes March 25-28 at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont., where the Redmen will be looking to win the title for the first time in school history.
