MONTREAL -- Daphnée-Maude André-Morin, a 19-year-old education sophomore with the McGill University Martlets, has been selected by Volleyball Canada to play for the national developmental team which is scheduled to compete at the FISU Summer Games in Shenzhen, China, August 12-23.

The 5-foot-7 native of Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac, Que., who was raised in Kitchener, Ont.,  becomes only the second volleyball player in McGill history to make the national team program, joining Wendy Whelan, who accomplished the feat in 1998.

Despite missing four matches due to illness, André-Morin was named libero of the year in the Quebec conference, where she led the league in total digs (247) and digs per set (4.05).

Picked for the national B squad after attending a Team Canada selection camp held at the University of Manitoba, May 15-20, she is scheduled to return to Winnipeg in July for a training camp.

"She is arguably the team's most dedicated athlete and showed tremendous consistency throughout the season," says McGill head coach Rachèle Béliveau. "She excels in passing and is also a very good and agile defensive player. Her strongest attribute is her serve-receive average, which was 2.23 (out of 3), which translates into a 74 per cent success rate and is an important component for someone who plays the libero position."

Alain Pelletier from the Université Laval has been named head coach of the national B Team. His assistant coaches are Lee Carter of Brandon University, and Joely Christian-Macfarlane from Queen's University.

Canadian Developmental 'B' Team Roster: Beth Clark (SK, Team Canada), Kelci French (AB, Team Canada), Kristi Hunter (MB, Manitoba), Alexandra Lojen (QC, U de Montreal), Shanice Marcelle (BC, UBC), Daphnée-Maude André-Morin (QC, McGill), Marie-Sophie Nadeau (QC, U de Montreal), Alicia Perrin (BC, Trinity Western), Michaela Ressor (ON, Samford), Amy Toews (MB, U of Manitoba), Tesca Andrew-Wasylik (ON, Laurier), Krista Zubick (AB, U of Alberta).
