New funding for biosensor research

Published: 16 February 2015

Prof Xinyu Liu is one of 10 McGill researchers to receive a 2015 NSERC Strategic Project Grant. His proposal, entitled "Paper-based microfluidic devices intergrating inGaN/GaN semiconductor microtubes for ultrasensitive detection of disease markers," has been awarded $394,300 to investigate portable, ultrasensitive biosensors that can quickly detect disease markers. In addition to improving health care through early-stage disease diagnosis and treatment, the technologies developed in this project will enable the development of other types of paper-based electronic sensors for non-diagnostic applications, such as environmental monitoring, food safety inspection, and consumer electronics.
