Oles and Verreault-Paul named McGill Old Orchard athletes of the week

MONTREAL - MONTREAL - Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., and Francis Verreault-Paul of Mashteuiatsh, Que., are the McGill University - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week, for the period ending Mar. 11, 2012.

 

Oles, a 5-foot-3 forward with the women's hockey team, was named to the CIS all-tournament team after tying for the tourney scoring lead with three goals, as McGill won two of three games to capture bronze at the CIS championship in Edmonton last weekend. The 21-year-old physical education sophomore sparked a three-goal outburst with a pair of third-period markers as McGill skated to a 4-0 victory over Alberta last Friday. She also scored the insurance goal in a 4-0 win over top-seeded Laurier in the bronze medal game on Sunday. Oles attended Kuper Academy before enrolling at McGill in 2010.

 

Verreault-Paul, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward with the hockey Redmen, won the Jack Kennedy Trophy as the Harrow Sports player of the game in the Queen's Cup as McGill captured the OUA championship with a 4-1 victory at Western, Saturday. The 24-year-old psychology senior scored one goal and assisted on two others, including the game-winner. Prior to enrolling at McGill, he attended College de Chicoutimi while playing junior hockey with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

 

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
