It functions through a Board of Directors and several specialized committees, one of which is the Space Safety Legal and Regulatory Committee to be led by Professor Jakhu.

The IAASS also carries out several space safety related studies. Currently, the Institute of Air and Space Law is doing research with several international experts on the subject of ICAO for Space, the final report of which will be presented at the IAASS International Conference on Space Safety in a Global World, to be held in Chicago, USA, May 14-16, 2007.
