QS Rankings: McGill English ranks 12th in the World

According to the highly regarded QS university rankings, the Department of English at McGill ranks 12th world-wide. This 12th place ranking puts McGill just behind departments at Chicago and Princeton, and ahead of prestigious programs at Cornell, Duke, Edinburgh, University College London, NYU, and elsewhere.

Among Canadian universities, McGill finishes just behind the University of Toronto, ranked 7th, and just ahead of UBC, ranked 13th. Toronto has approximately three times more faculty members teaching English than does McGill. UBC has over 60 tenure-track professors. The Department of English at McGill, with about 35 regular teaching faculty, offers Honours, major, and minor programs in Literature, Cultural Studies, and Drama and Theatre.

Faculty members in the Department of English have recently published critical studies of American underworlds, South African literature, Chaucer, theatre and feeling, lyric poetry, and visual art in contemporary fiction.
