Rohrbach and Plante named McGill - Ye Olde Orchard athletes of the week

MONTREAL -- Alexander Rohrbach of Princeton Junction, N.J., and Geneviève Plante of Montreal, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Sept. 25, 2011.

Rohrbach, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound forward with the men's lacrosse team, scored five goals and added two assists as McGill swept Bishop's and Carleton over the weekend. The 18-year-old management freshman tallied four markers -- including the game-winner with 91 seconds remaining -- and set up another, as the Redmen rallied from a three-goal deficit to outlast Bishop's 12-11 on Thursday. He then scored once and set up another in a 13-7 home-field win over Carleton on Saturday. Rohrbach is a product of West Windsor Plainsboro high school in New Jersey, where he earned all-American honours and also played for the elite state team.

Plante, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter on the women's volleyball squad, was named to the all-tournament team at the Ontario-Quebec volleyball challenge hosted by the Université de Montréal over the weekend. A 20-year-old science sophomore majoring in kinesiology, she helped McGill finish third overall by registering 40 digs, 28 kills and one stuff block in only four matches. Plante also served as an emergency fill-in at libero for one match. Prior to enrolling at McGill last year, she attended College Lionel Groulx.
