Schulich Grads excel at the 75th OSM Standard Life Competition

The 75th anniversary of the OSM Standard Life Competition was held from November 18 to 22, 2014, in Montreal.  Schulich School of Music alumni were well represented amongst the winners.  Since its creation in 1940, the OSM Standard Life Competition has helped launch the careers of some 300 prizewinners onto the national and international scene. It has succeeded in attracting prestigious partners and jury members of great renown, who have supported the OSM Standard Life Competition in pursuing its mission to champion promising young Canadian musicians. Congratulations to all who participated in this edition.
 
In the Woodwinds Category Lara Deutsch: BMus’12, MMus’14 won First prize: ($10,000)  She also won the  Prize for the best performance of a Canadian Work ($2,500),  The Stingray Audience Award ($2,500), A 75th Anniversary Prize ($1,000), The Paul Merkelo Scholarship ($2,500) an Orford Centre Award,  and a Domaine Forget Award.
 
In the Brass Category Mikolaj Debowski: BMus’12 and S. Reynolds: BMus’11, MMus’13  tied for third prize. (Each was awarded $2,500) .  Mikolaj Debowski also won the Prize for the best performance of a Canadian Work ($2,500).

In the Voice Category, Claire de Sévigné, soprano, Bmus '09, was awarded 2nd prize ($5,000) as well as a Banff Centre Award.
