Sinotte only 10 catches shy of CIS all-time Top 5 list
OTTAWA (CIS) - The climb up the list of career leaders resumes this weekend for a number of CIS football standouts.
At receiver, active leader Charles-Antoine Sinotte of McGill is tied for eighth position on the CIS career leaders list with 168 catches going into Saturday's duel between the Redmen (1-2) and Mount Allison (0-2).
Sinotte of Trois-Rivières, Que., who set a CIS single-season record when he hauled in 72 balls back in 2007, could catch both Queen's James MacLean (173) and Regina's Chad Goldie (173) with a five-reception effort against the Mounties and is 10 receptions short of the No. 5 spot on the all-time list held by Windsor's Arjei Franklin (178).
At quarterback, Guelph's Justin Dunk, Western Ontario's Michael Faulds and Queen's Dan Brannagan - should he be back on the field after being sidelined due to an injury last week - could all join a very select group of pivots who passed for 9,000 yards or more during their university days.
Dunk of Guelph, Ont., who tops the nation this fall with 1,091 passing yards through three games for an average of 364 per outing, is the leader among active quarterbacks with 8,758 career yards, which is good for seventh place on the CIS all-time list.
Faulds of Eden Mills, Ont., and Brannagan of Burlington, Ont., rank eighth and ninth on the career list with 8,722 and 8,693 yards, respectively.
Matt Connell, who played his final campaign at McGill a year ago, holds the CIS record of 10,455 yards through the air. McMaster's Ben Chapdelaine (9,974), Ottawa's Josh Sacobie (9,885) and Regina's Teale Orban (9,449) are the other members of the 9,000-yard club.
Last Saturday, Faulds became the 10th player in CIS history to attempt 1,000 passes over his career and he enters the weekend ranked eighth all-time with 1,020 throws, tops among active pivots. Dunk is one attempt short of 1,000 going into the fourth week of action, while Brannagan sits at 994.
Faulds is also the active leader with 616 completions and needs to hit his targets 22 times this week to break Sacobie's OUA career mark of 637 and move into third place on the CIS all-time list.
Faulds and Dunk face off Saturday at 1 p.m. (The Score) when the No.2-ranked Mustangs (3-0) visit the No.10-Gryphons (2-1). Brannagan's No.5-Gaels (3-0) host York (0-3), also at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Following are the CIS career leaders in major passing categories, as well as receptions, field goals, all-purpose touchdowns and scoring.
