The Committee on Advancing the Science of Family Medicine (CASFM) and Family Practice are excited to announce a new partnership. This endeavour will publish peer reviewed CASFM Methods Briefs in each Family Practice issue and maintain a balance between briefs focused on quantitative and qualitative research methods.

It is with much gratitude that we salute Dr. Mark Karanofsky for his leadership as Director of the Undergraduate Program for the McGill Department of Family Medicine, a position he has held for over two and a half years. He officially stepped down from this position on September 30, 2018. Since July 2018, he has been the interim Unit Director of the Herzl Family Practice Centre of the Jewish General Hospital.

The use of single-disease clinical guidelines is not appropriate for the management of patients with multimorbidity, the occurrence of multiple chronic disease in one patient. Groupe Santé Concerto developed guidelines that can be integrated and may result in improvement of patient quality of care.

Just last month, Cristina Longo successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled “Treatment Considerations and Prescribing Issues for Obese Children with Asthma,” making her the first ad hoc PhD graduate of the Department of Family Medicine of McGill University. The weather is warmer than ever and people are now enjoying the sunny days that Montreal have to offer. Despite the temptation to lay in the sun all day, large numbers of students, residents and members of the Department of Family Medicine turned out for a week of learning and research-based conversations. As such, the 4th Annual Family Medicine Research Division and Graduate Student Society Symposium and the Isaac Tannenbaum Family Medicine Resident Research Day were held respectively on May 30th and June 1st, 2018.
