In response to new measures announced by McGill University and the Government of Quebec to slow the spread of the Omicron variant, the Library is temporarily closing most physical spaces and all stack areas to the McGill community and reinstating four services: Study Hubs, HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS), a temporary Pickup Service, and the ROAAr Digitization on Demand Service.

The McGill Library is aligning its branch activities during the first week of the Winter 2022 semester with general McGill directives outlined in the allnote sent out to McGill students, faculty and staff dated Friday, December 17.

As of Wednesday, December 1, the McGill community can take advantage of a new, heated, outdoor area. 

Heaters in the tent located on the McLennan-Redpath terrace will provide McGill students, staff and faculty with a safe, warm, space to take a break, dine, study, and socialize.

Heaters will be operational Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (excluding holidays).

The week of November 22, the Library was experiencing two issues impacting user experience for Wiley and OverDrive e-book titles in which only a small portion of the Library's Wiley e-book titles were underrepresented in the Sofia catalogue and OverDrive holdings were overrepresented.

The original issue for Wiley has been fixed but the OverDrive issue, outlined below, is still outstanding.

The Library is excited to announce an open access agreement with Karger Publishing.

As of January 1, 2022, McGill corresponding authors submitting to Karger journals will have the option to make their work open access at no cost.

Beginning in December, two branches will be open later to give you more time to study and get your work done.

From Wednesday, December 1 to Tuesday, December 21, the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex and the Nahum Gelber Law Library will be open for study purposes 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

As of December 1, McGill students are able to access the Nahum Gelber Law Library 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As agreed between the Students' Society of McGill University (SSMU) and the Law Students Association (LSA), the Nahum Gelber Law Library will limit access to the three upper floors of the library to Law students only during the December 7 to 21 examination period. Details are as follows:

- Floors 3, 4 and 5 will be limited to Law students from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday during the two-week period.

Contractors for the City of Montreal will be working on modifications to the east sidewalk on McTavish Street (between Sherbrooke and Dr. Penfield) from Monday, November 8 to Wednesday, November 10 inclusive. A security perimeter will be installed to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

The St. Jerome image illustrated here currently graces the eScholarship page header. It is from the Book of Hours, Use of Sarum, Flemish or English, c.1450 in the Library’s collection.

Help the McGill Library raise money for Centraide of Greater Montreal by giving to a charity that supports nearly 350 agencies and projects in the Greater Montreal Area with the aim of breaking the cycle of poverty and social exclusion.

This year, the McGill Library is offering a one-time Holiday Book Box for a minimum donation of $5 (all proceeds go toward Centraide).

As of Wednesday, October 27, all users of McGill’s library system will need to show their vaccine passport and current McGill ID card to physically access library spaces. To quicken the check-in process, the Library is implementing a Fast-Pass sticker that will allow users to access library spaces while reducing lineups. The sticker will be placed on the McGill ID and will need to be shown to safety ambassadors at all Library entrances once the vaccine passport system is implemented.
