The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Vrinda Narain and Paul Miller have each been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. When he shared the news, Dean Daniel Jutras indicated how “this is wonderful news, which underscores the excellence of their work and the quality of their contributions to the intellectual life of the Faculty, the University and the various communities to which we belong. It is a privilege to have them as members of our McGill Law community.”
We are happy to announce that the latest book from the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, Les apparences en droit civil, has been published by Éditions Yvon Blais. This collection of seven essays is the outcome of the civil law workshop series of the same name that the Centre ran in 2012-2014.

McGill University has announced the 16 recipients of honorary doctorates for the upcoming spring convocation. Among them is Professor Martti Koskenniemi, who will be awarded the LL.D. distinction during the Faculty of Law’s convocation ceremony on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 2 pm.
A group of McGill students and alums who worked on the Myko Social Score app have received the 2015 Catalyst Award for Excellence in Applied Student Research.
The Award is sponsored by the McGill Office of Sustainability and is decided by a distinguished jury. DCL candidate Juan Pinto, undergrad law student Etienne Ravilet Guzman, as well as alumni Carolina Cruz-Vinaccia (LLM’11) and Guillaume Béal (LLM’14), were among the members of the multidisciplinary team that received the group award.
The Younger Comparativists Committee (YCC) of the American Society of Comparative Law has selected Professor Kirsten Anker as the inaugural recipient of the Richard M. Buxbaum Prize for Teaching in Comparative Law.
In their nomination, the YCC praised Professor Anker for her “rich and creative efforts in the teaching of indigenous law, including her successful field course”. They also recognized “the wide scope of [her] teaching interests”, her "rigorous approach to comparative law and legal pluralism" and the interdisciplinary approach of her courses.
Access to Nahum Gelber Law Library during exam period

From Tuesday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 29, 2015, the main floor and second floor of the Nahum Gelber Law Library will be open for study to all McGill students during opening hours. During this period, only McGill Law students will be able to access the third, fourth and fifth floors using their ID cards on the card readers installed in both elevators and in access points.
Professor Jaye Ellis has been appointed Acting Director of the McGill School of Environment (MSE) for a one-year term beginning in September 2015.
Professor Ellis, who holds a joint appointment with the MSE, teaches and conducts research in the fields of international environmental law, public international law, international legal theory and international relations. Previously, she was Associate Dean (Academic) at the Faculty from 2011 to 2014.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Frédéric Mégret has been named a William Dawson Scholar at McGill University.
McGill’s William Dawson Scholar program recognizes scholars poised to become leaders in their fields and are awarded for a five-year term.
As Dean Daniel Jutras said when he shared the news, “this honour underscores the depth and the quality of Frédéric Mégret’s exceptional scientific work.”
