Dr. Myrna Lashley will receive an honorary doctorate from University of Ottawa in recognition of her many remarkable accomplishments. The honorary degree will be awarded during the second national conference on black mental health in Canada entitled Black Mental Health: Reclaiming the Path to Joy which takes place at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on October 16, 2024. The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) and its Members have elected this year’s new Fellows and named the incoming class of the RSC College. In addition to 104 new Fellows, the Royal Society of Canada welcomes 56 new Members of the RSC College who have significantly impacted their respective disciplines at both national and international levels. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marc Chammas as the new Director of Undergraduate Medical Education. He will be replacing Dr. Meterissian whose term ended June 30, 2024. As Director, Dr. Chammas will work closely with the Associate Chair of Education and be responsible for development and advancement of all aspects of UGME within the Department of Psychiatry.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the winner of the annual Leyton Addiction Research Prize. The competition was strong, but the review committee (unanimously) agreed that Lauren Reynolds’s paper titled Amphetamine disrupts dopamine axon growth in adolescence by a sex-specific mechanism in mice was the most deserving of this year's $1,000 prize.

Dr. Eva-Flore Bui-Xuan has been appointed as the new Psychiatrist-in-Chief of the Montreal Children’s Hospital, pending regulatory approvals.
As Psychiatrist-in-Chief, Dr. Bui will be responsible for the organization and leadership of child psychiatry clinical services of the MCH. She will work in close collaboration with Dr. Cecile Rousseau (Director, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) to implement academic priorities, including teaching and research activities at the MCH.
