The original Star Trek "Captain" is coming to Calgary later this month for an appearance at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. William Shatner joined Doug Dirks live on the phone.

It’s not uncommon for a veteran actor to offer sage advice, choice nuggets of wisdom, gleaned from a lifetime of experience. William Shatner, at nearly 85, is not one of those actors.
“What I’ve learned,” said the Canadian-born Shatner, who brings his one-man Broadway show to the Balboa Theatre Thursday, “is that I, primarily, and everybody, in general, knows nothing. I know nothing.”
William Shatner graduated from McGill University in 1952 with a BCom degree.

An Evening with William Shatner feels a lot like being beamed to another planet. Captain Kirk took the helm at Ottawa’s EY Centre last night, in a special ticketed fan event ahead of this weekend’s Ottawa Pop Expo. The energetic, eccentric 84-year-old, clad in a black leather jacket, came as advertised. Shatner looked like a man still fit for the captain’s chair. His one-man show was a stream-of-consciousness rumination on everything from Star Trek to Air Canada (“a test of your sanity”), from Pacific salmon to Twitter.

You probably thought (or hoped) your high school yearbook would never see the light of day again.
... And, William Shatner, known for his role as cultural icon Captain Kirk, was an active member of McGill University’s theatre world in the days before television became mainstream in Canada.

According to the 1951 McGill University yearbook, future Star Trek captain William Shatner was already showing leadership as president of McGill's Radio Workshop, and his yearbook records also show him to be a member of both the Players’ Club and the Red & White Revue musical theatre clubs.
