The Oath Project is an ongoing research project at the University of Nottingham, directed by Professor Alan Sommerstein and funded by the Leverhulme Trust. As the oath was a fundamental institution in ancient Greece, creating a binding force in almost every level of social interaction, oaths appear throughout sources from the time period, and the Project's main goal was to create a survey of all oaths from the Archaic period through the death of Alexander the Great. The main result of this effort was the Oath Database, authored primarily by team members Isabelle Torrance and Andrew Bayliss under the direction of Alan Sommerstein, while the whole Project team continues to work on analysis and publications based around that survey.
Lynn Kozak was a research student on the Oath Project. She contributed work on Homeric oaths to the Oath Database and wrote two sections of Oath and State in Ancient Greece, edited by Alan Sommerstein and Andrew Bayliss (2012), and two sections of Oaths and Swearing in Ancient Greece, edited by Alan Sommerstein and Isabelle Torrance (2014).
