Campus InterZone

How Campus InterZone enhances and secures network connectivity at McGill

As part of the Network and Information Security Upgrade initiative, McGill IT Services has introduced Campus InterZone, a new,  secure network architecture. This new architecture standardizes network access and security for all network users with a consistent security structure.

Users and devices connected to the McGill network will be placed in virtual "zones" and gain access according to their privileges, whether they are on wired, wireless or remotely using the McGill Virtual Network (VPN).

What are the key benefits of Zone-based security?

  • Unified access throughout the McGill network for all authorized users (Wired, Wireless, VPN)

  • Improved security for all users and devices

  • Streamlined process to assign user access

  • Better protection for McGill’s services accessed through the network

The migration of all users, systems, devices, and servers to Campus InterZone will be completed by October 2023.  The Campus InterZone project team will closely support the LAN Admins to smoothly migrate users and systems, and address issues as they arise to minimize the impact to all affected groups.
