Op-Ed: COVID-19 Doesn’t Discriminate, But People Do

Research assistant and PhD student Rebecca Katz has written an op-ed piece about discrimination in the time of COVID-19. She explains: 

It’s cliché to say that Covid-19 doesn’t discriminate. Viruses – which occupy a grey area between nonliving and living organisms – can’t perceive race, class, religion, or other personal characteristics. However, humans and our social structures do, with tragic results, including physical attacks, proliferating online hatred, and disproportionate Covid-19 death rates in racialized communities that represent large percentages of front-line health care and service workers.
