"playing WITH – playing OUT" exhibition

Published: 7 March 2023

Following their participation in the Anti-Violence Project’s Understanding Consent Culture Workshop, artistic collaborators Caroline Boileau and Natasha S. Reid developed a series of objects and artistic propositions. These artworks were in the playing WITH – playing OUT exhibition at the A. Wilfrid Johns Gallery at the University of Victoria (Victoria, BC) from November 4 to 18, 2022. The playing WITH – playing OUT exhibition is at the arc.hive gallery from March 4 to March 12, 2023.

playing WITH – playing OUT is an invitation for folks to engage in playful artistic actions, collaborations, dialogues, and/or individual contemplation focused on consent* and boundary development. Grounded in participatory art practices, the exhibition will grow, shift, and develop new connections with each new interaction. The exhibition aims to stimulate thinking and dialogue about consent, with the intention of promoting consent culture on campuses and in the wider community. Further, the exhibition encourages attendees to consider how art and art spaces can be employed to address pressing social issues and difficult knowledge.

The video below documented the playing WITH – playing OUT exhibition at the University of Victoria from November 2022. More information about the exhibition is available on Natasha S. Reid's website, as well as in both the print and online versions of Preview magazine.
