McGill24: Our McGill Moments

Students in the Faculty of Dentistry Share the Moments that Make them #McGillProud

Since 2016, thousands of McGillians around the world have come together for #McGill24, the University’s annual day of giving. Our collective success is unparalleled: the largest Canadian fundraiser of its kind, McGill24 has raised more than $4 million in support of students, research and campus programs. McGill24 is happening on March 13, and this year, we’re sharing our favourite McGill Moments from around the Faculty of Dentistry. Read about the things that make our students #McGillProud below!

Mallory Laframboise, DMD IV (Class of '19)

"One of my most memorable memories from McGill Dentistry has been giving a patient six aesthetic anterior restorations. Before the appointment started, my patient told me he had been looking forward to it for almost an entire month since he would be receiving his “new smile” today. After we were done and I gave him a mirror, he told me his teeth had never looked this good before and that he wouldn’t feel embarrassed smiling anymore. That appointment has been the highlight of my fourth year in dental school and something I will remember for the rest of my career! I am #mcgillproud since McGill Dentistry has given me the privilege to provide exceptional dental care under their instruction and supervision."

Georgina Lamontagne & Stephanie Wiseman, DMD II (Class of '21)

"McGill Dentistry’s Outreach program offers no-cost/reduced-cost dental treatment to the underserved and unserved members of our community. As second year students, we have the opportunity to assist the upper year students providing the treatment. Each patient encounter provides us with immense insight into the difficulties many individuals face when seeking accessible dental care, and how oral health can majorly affect an individual’s overall health.

"With this in mind, we both decided to join the committee organizing the annual Winter Outreach Event: the largest fundraiser of the year supporting this initiative. After many months of planning and hard work, the event took place in early February at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and was a huge success! What made us #McGillProud was seeing our peers, faculty, staff, and members of the community at large come together in support of such an important cause. We are so proud to be a part of a faculty with a social conscience, and hope to continue finding ways to give back in the years to come!"

Jean-David Azuelos, DMD III (Class of '20)

“During the Fall term of this year, I took the opportunity to visit my son’s kindergarten during their Parents’ Day -where the school invites parents to talk about their profession every year. I came with toothbrushes, toothpastes, coloring books, games, and lessons related to oral health. What was initially planned as a 30 minute visit turned into an hour, and every nearby classroom heard the excitement and joined in—so a room of 15 quickly turned to 60. This has to be my favourite McGill Moment, because it captures the best parts of the profession: reaching out to the community. And that’s something that makes me #McGillProud."

Wenjia Wu, DMD III (Class of '20)

"Working at McGill Dentistry Outreach rotations offering free dental care to the underserved populations in Montreal makes me #McGillProud. I often look back at our time during 1st and 2nd year, when we assisted upper year students during their rotations, and think of how the tables have turned! I am extremely grateful to be a part of a program which allows us to give back to the Montreal community and strengthen the bond within our student body."
